Part 1
This two day course for professionals looks at both theory and practice. It focuses on assessment and therapeutic work with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, abuse and family difficulties. It includes managing anxiety and containment, assessing attachment, communicating with distressed children, understanding their behaviour, dealing with resistance, and creating plans for intervention. It is suitable for those working with children and adolescents in residential, educational or community settings.

Part 2
This two day advanced course builds on the first course developing workers' skills and understanding of therapeutic interventions with disturbed and distressed children, and an understanding of their own responses to children's distress. It includes a psycho-dynamic understanding of the impact of loss and trauma at different developmental stages, building a relationship with disturbed children, understanding the worker's feelings, how defences create resistance to change. It is suitable for those working with children and adolescents in residential, educational or community settings.
