Deirdre worked in the Family Service at the Cassel Hospital, an NHS residential therapeutic assessment and treatment service, in Richmond, Surrey, for many years and has her own private practice. She offers psychotherapy to children and teenagers, support to parents, and provides training, education and consultancy to health and social care professionals on therapeutic work with children, adolescents, and families with complex difficulties.
Deirdre's particular interests are parent-infant psychotherapy, working with children and adolescents in distress, and family work. She has recently had a book published by Routledge (2019) introducing child psychotherapy to professionals and the wider public called An Independent Practitioner's Introduction to Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy : Playing with Ideas. She has also written articles about developing new techniques in therapeutic work with children, families and infants.
