Separation and loss

Therapeutic approaches for children and adolescents who have experienced separation and loss

This two-day course for professionals offers a psychodynamic model for working therapeutically with children who have experienced repeated or traumatic loss. It looks at the impact of separation and loss on children of different ages, and how this affects their capacity to build trusting relationships. It recognizes that in these children emotional distress is often exacerbated by the experience of trauma and abuse. Participants will learn how to talk to children about these experiences and respond therapeutically to their expression of sadness, anger and distress through difficult behaviour.
