Caroline Penney

Bsc, MSc, SRN, PGCE, Dip Psych

Caroline Penney has extensive experience as a family therapist, with a particular focus on teaching parenting skills. She is registered as an accredited psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and as a Systemic Family and Couple Therapist with the UK Council for Psychotherapy and the Association of Family Therapy. Caroline has developed and taught a wide range of courses related to parenting. She works in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and other settings, helping children and families experiencing difficulties, and also children who have experienced significant loss and trauma. Caroline is also an accredited Infant Massage teacher. Since 2009 she has been joint-leader of the EPEC (Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities) project in south London, training parents to facilitate parenting groups. Caroline has recently provided training to health professionals and parents in Africa, Sri Lanka and Australia.


Deirdre Dowling

BA Hons. Dip Social Work, MACP BAP BCP

Deirdre is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psycho-analytic Psychotherapist and Adult Psychotherapist. She has worked in the Family Service at the Cassel Hospital, an NHS residential therapeutic assessment and treatment service, in Richmond, Surrey, for many years and has her own private practice. Deirdre provides training, education and consultancy to health and social care professionals on therapeutic work with children, adolescents, and families with complex difficulties.Prior to her current professional roles Deirdre was employed in local authority child care as a social worker, team leader and specialist in training and staff development.

Deirdre's particular interests are parent-infant psychotherapy, working with children and adolescents in distress, and family work. She has also written about developing new techniques in therapeutic work with children, families and infants.


Amanda Foster

Dip.Cot (Occupational Therapy)

Amanda Foster is an Occupational Therapist with over 20 years experience of working with children, young people and their families. She has worked in Child and Adolescent Mental Health services with children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties. There she specialised in group work which included developing and facilitating parenting groups, groups for young people and social skills groups for children. Amanda is currently a senior practitioner in the NHS, working in a Child Development Centre. She has extensive experience of working with children and young people on the Autistic Spectrum, children with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), Developmental Co-ordination Disorder and Developmental delay. She is a trained practitioner in Sensory Integration, Therapeutic Listening and Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (Co-Op). Amanda's experience in the complimentary areas of child health and child mental health enables her to assist children and young people who may have a number of complex needs.
